Manage Check Exceptions
Check exceptions are checks presented for payment that differ from the issued check information or that match a rule requiring review. Positive Pay displays the check image so that it can be compared to company records.
Decision Check Exceptions
Exceptions are pending check transactions that require review by an authorized user and a "Pay" or "Return" decision.
- Select Exceptions
- You can also select the link in the alert.
- Select a pending check that needs review
- Select the check image to view the front and back of the check
- Compare the check to the company records
- Review the check number, presented amount, issue date, payee name, check image, and the specific mismatch reason.
- Select Pay or Return
- Select a return reason, if prompted.
- Enter a note, if required.
- Select Submit.
⚠️ Important Note: If enabled by your company, entering a memo or reason may be required when making decisions. For a payee mismatch, compare the printed payee name to the issued check. If the issued check was entered incorrectly and the check is valid, correct the issued check. When the corrected check matches the presented check, the exception is removed. Any exceptions not decisioned by our daily transaction cutoff times will return by default unless the company settings are changed.

If an approval rule applies to a decision, the decision is sent for approval by an authorized user. Otherwise, the decision is final.
