ACH Decision Rules
Authorized users can set up decision rules specifically for ACH exceptions. A debit that matches a rule does not create an exception.
Add an ACH Decision Rule
- Select Settings
- Click Automatic ACH Decision Rules
- Click Add Rule
- Define the required Rule Conditions
- Click Save.
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Rule Name (Required) | Enter a name for the rule. |
| Effective Date (Required) | Date the rule will take effect. By default, the current date is used. |
| Expiration Date (Optional) | Date the rule will no longer be in effect. |
| Rule Conditions (Required) | Select one or more conditions to create the rule. Options include: Amount; Company (that the transaction came from); SEC Code; Transaction Code. |
| Rule Decision (Required) | Options include: Pay or Return. |
⚠️ Important Note: Frequency applies only when a company is included in the rule. Options are Daily, Weekly, Monthly, and Annually. Example: To allow a vendor to debit up to $500 once a month, select the Company, set Frequency to Monthly, set Amount to $500, and set the Rule Decision to Pay.
Consider the following when creating rules:
- Use Company to allow only the originators the company expects.
- Use Amount to set a limit so unexpected large debits create an exception.
- Use Frequency to limit how often a company can debit.
- Use SEC Code and Transaction Code to allow only the entry types the company expects.
- Set an Expiration Date for temporary rules.
⚠️ Important Note: Rules configured to "Pay" automatically bypass the manual user review process. Please carefully verify each rule's criteria before saving to ensure unauthorized transactions are not inadvertently approved.
Change an ACH Decision Rule
- Select Settings
- Click Automatic ACH Decision Rules
- Select the rule
- Change the conditions, dates, or decision.
- Click Save Rules.
Delete an ACH Decision Rule
- Select Settings
- Click Automatic ACH Decision Rules

⚠️ Important Note: After a rule is deleted, debits that no longer match a rule create exceptions. Any exceptions not decisioned by the cutoff time will return by default unless the company settings are changed.
ACH Approval Rules
If an authorized user reviews exceptions generated for ACH transactions, the company may also want to review and approve some or all of their decisions. If so, you will need to set up an approval workflow using ACH approval rules.
Add an ACH Approval rule
- Select Settings
- Click ACH Approval Rules
- Click Add Rule
- Define the required Rule Conditions
- Click Save.
